Civita di Bagnoregio “The Dying City” Private Tour from Rome

Civita di Bagnoregio “The Dying City” Private Tour from Rome

460€ per person

Civita di Bagnoregio is a magical, surreal, fantastic place located on top of a tuff hill that can only be reached by crossing a narrow pedestrian bridge. From there you can enjoy one of the most stunning panoramic views of the whole Lazio region. Nick-named “the town that is dying”, due to the constant erosion of the tuff rocks where it is placed, this citadel half-way between Orvieto and Lake Bolsena has Etruscan and Medieval origins. Suspended in time and space, Civita di Bagnoregio is beyond doubt one of the most beautiful and characteristic Italian villages. On foggy days, this wonderful town seems literally suspended in mid-air… The wonderful village of Civita di Bagnoregio is today a very small town center where time seems to have stopped. As already mentioned, to get to the village of Civita you must cross the suspension bridge of 300 metres linking it to Bagnoregio. Arm yourself with a camera because at every step you will be faced with breath-taking views!

    Good!
It was a good day tour since the guide came to our hotel on time. We had plenty of time to take
    pictures and walk around.

Green landscapes and enchanting Medieval villages characterize the Tuscia zone and its capital, Viterbo. It is an oasis of good food and relaxation, situated amidst the legacies of the Etruscans and the Via Francigena, where the rhythms of life from the mountains to the sea are dictated by nature and the age-old customs of peasant life. Located between the southern borders of the Tuscan Maremma and Rome, Viterbo and Upper Lazio are characterized by a landscape of volcanic origins, with the Lakes of Bolsena and Vico having formed in ancient extinct craters. Flat in the north, the land becomes more hilly up towards the Cimini Mountains, then slopes down to the River Tiber. Beechwoods dot the higher areas, while oaks and chestnut trees inhabit the lower altitudes. A sandy shoreline and the Mediterranean bush characterize the area of the coast with its crystalline waters. Among the coastal destinations, Tarquinia Lido offers tourists swims in limpid waters, a vast panorama from the top of the Tarquinia Alta Hill, and the discovery of an Etruscan necropolis (one of Italy's 49 UNESCO World Heritage Sites) made up of approximately 200 graves, where paintings represent the most conspicuous legacies of Etruscan art. Many archaeological finds unearthed during excavations here are kept in the Museo Archeologico Nazionale (National Archaeological Museum), housed in Palazzo Vitelleschi, considered one of the most important Etruscan museums in Italy.
